Commencement is a solemn, but celebratory occasion for graduates, their families, faculty and administration.

Graduates

Graduates are requested to wear the traditional regalia, a cap and gown. Students may order their regalia through this website. Please refer to your school’s website for information regarding what specifically is needed for your ceremony.  The addition of adornments (such as stoles, pins, etc.) to the academic attire is discouraged.  The university follows the “Academic Costume Code” guidelines, originally recommended by the American Council of Higher Education, as closely as possible. Such adornments are not part of official commencement attire and protocol.

Guests

The Phase I, All-University ceremony and two of the Phase II (department and school) ceremonies take place outdoors without tent coverage. Business casual is suitable attire for Commencement, and families and guests are advised to wear comfortable shoes. This being New England, the weather in mid-May is often unpredictable, so families are urged to be prepared.
