Graduates are requested to adhere to the American Council on Education’s “Academic Costume Code” which stipulates that “nothing should be worn on the academic gown.” The addition of adornments (such as stoles, pins, etc.) to the academic attire is discouraged. The university follows the “Academic Costume Code” guidelines originally recommended by the American Council on Education as closely as possible. Such adornments are not part of the official commencement attire and protocol.
Caps, gowns, and hoods can be purchased online beginning January 12 until March 1. Ordering early guarantees each student will have the correct size outfit for graduation. For students who miss this deadline, there will be caps and gowns available for purchase starting on April 8 through prior to commencement in the bookstore. As commencement approaches, sizing inventory for in person purchasing will be limited. For questions, contact the bookstore at 617-627-3468.
Rentals are not available. The prices are approximately:

- Commemorative brown and blue tassel $10 (optional)
